Four Transmissions

For Soprano and Alto Saxophones

Four Transmissions explores a few different forms of communication, and the conceptual implications in the lack thereof. Moving from traditional notation to virtually none over the course of the 4 movements, the piece forces the performers to negotiate with their playing partner, primarily through carful listening and thoughtful response.

The performers are increasingly encouraged to give themselves to the music and their own performance, while also developing a sense of trust and care for their performing partner.

Four Transmissions was written for Alexis Aguilar and her collaborator 张⼦健 (Zijian “Chuck” Zhang).

Alexis Aguilar, soprano saxophone and Zijian Zhang, Alto Saxophone.
