Fractals
For Flute and Alto Saxophone
In geometry, fractals are patterns with theoretically infinite recursion. In electronic music, this theoretical idea can be applied by experimenting with rhythmic and frequency ratios. In this acoustic setting, I wanted to take a more abstract position on the concept by starting with a couple of small ideas and continuously build on them. This process is subverted and interrupted in several instances, breaking our perception of the fractal we’re working in. After all, perfect and infinite recursion has yet to be proven possible in the natural world.
