Let it out
For Pipe Organ and Live Electronics
Let it out’s main feature is the selection of stops for use in the piece. With the pedals and manuals all coupled together, the organist freely constructs and deconstructs the sound while primarily engaging the pipes via the pedals. In this, the organist is provided a basic harmonic content to guide the registration of the organ, sometimes with basic adjectives to help guide timbre.
The live electronics accompanying Let it out supplement the slow build of the organs registration through the use of live- processing across 5 channels. Together, the organ and the electronics elicit the compositions main point of exploration; seeking the extreme boundaries of perception with volume, spatialization, and intonation.
Let it out was written for Northrop Memorial Auditorium’s pipe organ on the University of Minnesota’s campus, and was premiered by organist Brenda Sevcik.
