Phenomenology No. 6
“This work is an electroacoustic piece by the Ohio University Composition Students. Phenomenology is an ongoing collaborative project in which OU composers come together to practice a single idea and amalgamate each composer's work into a single composition. This is the sixth alteration of the Phenomenology project. In this edition, the inspiration was driven by the emergent behavior in birds, specifically murmuration. Birds flock as a unit which doesn’t depend on the direction of the movement of one individual but rather the relationship between one and another. The project consisted of two media, video and music married into one unique product to replicate the motion of flocks of birds into a vibrant and natural representation. The choice of using electronic media of synthesized sounds and processed recorded sounds as an emulation of the birds’ behavior. The individual composers' parts were assigned by dividing the video into sections. The result resembles an interactive choral of voices resembling the movement of the birds.”
Collaboratively composed by Conner Cook, Noah J. Gruenberg, Nate Krebs, Tyler Sebastian, and Sam Sernavski with direction and concept by Sam. Featuring Kaden Hedges on tuba and editing by Ian LaBarge.
